What is Vela, exactly?
Vela is an AI companion app. You pick (or build) a character with their own personality, voice, and look — then talk by text or voice whenever you want. They remember what matters to you, send photos from their side of things, and treat every conversation as part of an ongoing story between you two.
Are my conversations private?
Yes. Conversations are encrypted in transit and at rest, only you can read them, and we don't sell or share your messages. You can export or delete your entire history at any moment from Settings → Privacy.
What's the difference between Free, Plus, and Premium?
Free gives you a real taste — 30 messages/day, 5 voice messages/day, 5 selfies/day, 3 companions, and Vela's visible memory panel. Plus ($9.99/mo) raises your daily limits, unlocks 6 base companions plus 1 custom, and gives your memory more room to grow. Premium ($19.99/mo) unlocks the full roster, 10 + 3 custom companion slots, all premium ElevenLabs voices, priority speed, and the richest experience.
Can I cancel anytime?
Anytime, in two taps. Settings → Billing → Cancel. You keep Plus or Premium access until the end of your billing period; no questions, no friction. Annual plans include a 3-day free trial.
Is this ethical? Should I be using an AI companion?
We think the honest answer is: it depends on how you use it. Vela is built to be a warm, supportive presence — for late-night moments, social practice, journaling out loud, or just feeling heard. They're a complement to human connection, not a replacement for it. Vela is also not a therapist; if you're in crisis or need clinical support, please reach out to a qualified professional or a local crisis line.
Can I build my own companion from scratch?
Yes — Plus includes 1 custom companion slot, and Premium includes up to 3 custom companion profiles. Define their name, looks, voice, personality traits, backstory, and how they show up with you. You can edit any of it later, and memory carries forward.
Does Vela work on mobile?
Yes. Vela runs in any modern mobile browser, and our iOS and Android apps are rolling out through 2026. Plus and Premium accounts work seamlessly across web and native.
